Indonesian fried chicken ranked fifth with a rating of 4.4, while ayam penyet, another fried chicken-based dish, came in ninth place with a rating of 4.3.
This is not the first time fried chicken and ayam penyet have been recognized by international foodies. Last year, fried chicken even won first place as the world’s best-fried chicken dish.
However, according to the latest TasteAtlas December 2024 list, fried chicken from South Korea (Korean Fried Chicken), commonly called Chikin, took first place with a score of 4.6. The American military first introduced fried chicken to South Korea during the Korean War in the 1950s.
Taste Atlas employs various mechanisms in assigning scores that ensure only reviews from genuine users are counted while fake ratings are ignored. In fact, reviews from users who are recognized by the system as having a deeper knowledge of the food gain additional value weight.
