Top 10 Airports for Sleeping During Flight Delays: Indonesia’s Airport Comes in Second

Share:

For travellers, the convenience of sleeping at the airport is probably nothing new. Whether it’s a long flight delay, inclement weather, or an early morning flight, the airport provides a comfortable and cost-effective solution.

Australian mattress company OneBed conducted extensive research at the world’s major airports to rank the best airports for passengers during flight delays or cancellations. The result? A comprehensive list of ten winning airports.

As reported by USAToday, the study assessed several factors, such as passenger density based on traffic and airport size, the number of free dedicated rest areas, and sleep comfort ratings from traveller reviews.

This list is even more surprising because Soekarno Hatta Airport came in second, while Incheon International Airport in South Korea came in first.

Here are ten airports for sleeping during flight delays:

1. Incheon International Airport, South Korea

Incheon International Airport has eight rest areas and a low passenger density, which makes it ideal for travellers looking for a place to rest during transit or long delays.

2. Soekarno Hatta International Airport, Indonesia

Despite the high passenger density at Soetta Airport, seven rest areas are set up. This is the second-highest number on the list of the best airports for sleeping during delays, making it an option for travellers.

3. Frankfurt Airport, Germany

Frankfurt Airport is known as the busiest in Germany, but it has six dedicated areas for passengers looking for a place to rest.

4. Orlando International Airport, Florida

As the only US airport in the top 10, Orlando International Airport has the highest traveller rating and low passenger density.

5. Suvarnabhumi International Airport, Thailand

This is Thailand’s main airport and the busiest. Despite this, it has three accessible rest areas and still ranks high in traveller reviews for sleeping comfort.

6. Beijing International Airport, China

Despite having the highest passenger density on this list, Beijing International Airport has five rest areas for travellers waiting for delays or long layovers.

7. Chengdu Tianfu International Airport, China

This airport has the lowest passenger density on the list but has a spacious layout, offering travellers a good opportunity to rest in peace.

8. Toronto Pearson International Airport, Canada

Toronto Pearson International Airport is the busiest airport in Canada, but thanks to its moderate passenger density, it is relatively comfortable for travellers to rest. Unfortunately, there are only two designated areas for napping.

9. Istanbul Airport, Turkey

As Turkey’s largest airport and the busiest of the 10, Istanbul Airport offers three free rest areas and ranks highly in passenger reviews for sleep quality.

10. Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, Netherlands

Amsterdam Schiphol Airport is ranked 10th for having five dedicated free rest areas.

Where to Sleep at Soekarno Hatta Airport?

Soekarno Hatta Airport in Jakarta is a huge airport and certainly has adequate facilities. If you are waiting for a flight and are worried about being late, you don’t have to worry. This is because there are areas or spots to stay at the airport.

In terminal 1A, the Red Corner area is a food court with several mini restaurants. At this point, many people also use it to take a short break.

At Soekarno Hatta Terminal 2, a Digital Lounge is located at Terminal 2 Departures, Gate 4. This area offers various facilities, including free Wi-Fi, computers with internet access, coworking spaces, and virtual game areas.

To anticipate flight delays, the airport management also provides lounge chairs prepared for resting places for prospective aircraft passengers at the Ultimate Terminal 3.
