A teenager with the initials MAS (14) stabbed his father, mother and grandmother using a kitchen knife at their home in the Lebak Bulus area, Cilandak, South Jakarta, on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at around 01.00 a.m.

The incident left the perpetrator’s father and grandmother, APW (40) and RM (69), dead at the scene. Meanwhile, the perpetrator’s mother, AP (40), managed to survive but is in a critical condition in the hospital.

Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of South Jakarta Metro Police AKBP Gogo Galesung said MAS stabbed his father, mother, and grandmother because he got a whisper while having trouble sleeping.

“Yes, his initial interrogation was that he felt he could not sleep, then there were things that whispered to him, disturbing him like that,” said Gogo, as reported by KOMPAS.

Gogo revealed the sequence of murder and abuse committed by MAS. Initial suspicion: MAS killed his father first, then stabbed his mother and grandmother.

Neighbours knew the perpetrator was an only child. Every day, the perpetrator lives with his father, grandmother, and mother, who was also a victim of MAS’s stabbing.

Apart from the father, mother and grandmother, the house is also inhabited by a woman who works as a maid. However, when the murder occurred, the maid was returning home.

Police named the teenager as a suspect and charged with murder

Public Relations Section of South Jakarta Metro Police AKP Nurma Dewi said the suspect was charged with Article 338 of the Criminal Code on murder.

Nurma said the suspect was entrusted to the Ministry of Social Affairs because he was still a minor. Until now, the police are still investigating, including finding out the exact motive for the murder.

The police will use juvenile justice rules stipulated in Law Number 11 of 2012 concerning the Juvenile Justice System. Officers will also involve a psychiatrist to find out the motive for the perpetrator to commit murder, even though he is very loved in his family.

Until now, the perpetrator has not communicated with his mother, who was the victim of the stabbing and suffered severe injuries. He said the mother is still recovering and cannot be interviewed at this time.

However, from police information, the suspect looked very sad and showed deep remorse.

KPAI Highlights Child Parenting

Regarding related cases, Dian Sasmita, Commissioner of the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI), explained that not all children grow up with the responses expected by adults.

Their growth is considered to be motivated by various factors, including family parenting and the impact of the surrounding environment because most of the time is spent in these two environments.

“Children’s lives and growth and development are strongly influenced by factors outside the child. He (the teenager) is not able to create his own life,” Dian was quoted as saying by Detikcom.

KPAI then coordinated with all parties within the Child Criminal Justice System (SPPA) framework at the South Jakarta Police. Given the murder case with the perpetrator of children, it is not the first time this has happened.
