3 Dead in Turangga and Bandung Raya Train Accident in Cicalengka

The start of 2024 was marked by a tragic train accident that occurred in Cicalengka Bandung on 5th January 2024, at 6:03 AM local time. The accident involved the collision between the local Bandung Raya train and the Turangga train en route to Surabaya-Bandung.

A video uploaded by @Cuancoin21 via X at 8 AM local time, depicting a violent collision between the two trains in a rice field area in Haurpugur, Bandung. Eyewitnesses reported that the front ends of both trains crashed on the same track. Sadly, three individuals lost their lives instantly in this tragedy: the train driver, an assistant driver, and one train employee.

 


As per the latest updates, three fatalities and 11 injuries have been reported, with the injured individuals promptly transported to the nearest hospital. Bandung Police Chief, Kusworo Wibowo, mentioned that efforts are ongoing to evacuate all other passengers involved in the accident.

Based on the circulating photos and videos, the front carriages of the train derailed, causing subsequent carriages to be crushed. This incident marks the second train accident in Indonesia in recent months.

Previously, on 17th October 2023, a collision between the Argo Semeru and Argo Wilis trains occurred in Yogyakarta. The accident transpired when the Argo Semeru train derailed and collided with the adjacent Argo Wilis on the track.

PT Kereta Api Indonesia has yet to issue an official statement concerning this tragic incident. In response to the train accident, many Indonesian netizens expressed their condolences via various social media platforms and urged PT KAI, the train transportation service provider, to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.
