Two Weeks Java-Bali PPKM Ends Today

Share:

29th August 2022 – The Levelled Implementation of the Community Activity Restriction (PPKM) to handle the Covid-19 pandemic in the Java-Bali region ends today (29/8). It has been in effect since 16 August 2022. Meanwhile, PPKM in other regions starts on 2nd August up to 5th September.

Currently, it is unknown whether the Government will extend Java-Bali PPKM or not. However, the Government has elaborated that at least three conditions will determine the continuity of PPKM to handle the Covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia.

The parameter used is by counting the Rt, or effective reproduction number of Covid-19. Rt refers to the number of effective transmissions of secondary cases in the population. A value below 1 is an indication that the outbreak is under control and the number of new cases is decreasing.

The first option, if the number of Rt is below 1 under two months then the PPKM will be extended every two weeks. The second option is, that if Rt Covid-19 is below 1 under four months, then PPKM will be extended once a month. And if the Rt Covid-19 is below 1 up to six months, then the PPKM extension won’t be necessary.

Furthermore, during the two weeks of PPKM, all regions of Java-Bali enter the Level 1 PPKM category. The Government claims that the PPKM Level 1 is determined based on the considerations and input from experts by taking into account the current conditions.

Additionally, the Health Development Policy Agency (BKPK) Ministry of Health along with the sero survey team from the Universitas Indonesia’s Faculty of Public Health has released the result of the serosurvey as of July 2022. It stated that there are 98,5% of the residents in Indonesia have an antibody against Covid-19.

Serosurveys are surveys and research conducted to calculate the number of individuals in a population that show positive results for a certain disease based on serological specimens or blood serums.
