A New Zealander Arrested for Possession of Illegal Drugs

3rd October 2022 – A New Zealander arrested for possession of cocaine, MDMA and methamphetamine faces at least several years in prison or, at worst, the death penalty, authorities said.

The Bali Regional National Narcotics Agency (BNNP Bali) announced yesterday that Kiwi, identified as MP, received a suspicious package containing drugs from a Canadian friend in a registered mailbox at the Denpasar Post Office on August 26. Post-sniffer dogs confirmed that the package contained illegal drugs, later revealed to contain about 3 grams of cocaine, about 2 grams of MDMA, and 1.7 grams of stimulants. MP has lived in South Kuta for six months now. He was arrested in front of a shophouse located in Griya Alam Housing, Pecatu, South Kuta Badung on August 30.  Upon this finding, the perpetrator was immediately brought to the Bali BNNP office with evidence.

The customs of Ngurah Rai suspected that there was a package sent from abroad on 28th August 2022. Then, the delivery control was carried out by Ngurah Rai Customs and BNNP Bali. “We investigated for two days. Then on Tuesday, 30th September 2022, we arrested the perpetrators,” said Gde Sugianyar at the Bali BNNP office.

A 42-year-old man who is half Indonesian told authorities the package was his birthday present. When interrogated, the perpetrator admitted that the package was sent by his Canadian friend.

Meanwhile, the head of BNPP Bali, Gde Sugianyar Dwi, suspects that the MP is part of a drug lordship that includes Canggu, Seminyak and Pererenan. In July, authorities arrested a 35-year-old Brazilian chef, a ring leader, his PED, and two traffickers, his CHR, 29, a British citizen, and his JO, 39, a Mexican citizen. was arrested.

Under Indonesia’s drug control law, the perpetrator is subject to article 113 paragraph 1 and article 112 paragraph 1 of the Republic of Indonesia law number 35 of 2009. He faces a minimum of four years in prison or the most severe penalty, the death penalty if found guilty of drug possession and trafficking.
