A joint team at the Nusa Penida rescue centre evacuated an Indian tourist who was swept away by the waves while visiting Diamond Beach, Nusa Penida, Klungkung, Bali, on Thursday, 27th of July 2023. The tourist from India with the initials AL, a 26-year-old male, was reportedly swept away by giant waves at Diamond Beach.
Basarnas Bali, who received the information, immediately evacuated the victim after the management of the tourist spot at Diamond Beach Nusa Penidacontacted the police and reported that a tourist from India had been swept away by the waves and died.
Even though the Indian tourist had received emergency assistance from several people who were around there, the victim didn’t survive the wave. Currently, his body is in Gemasanti Hospital for further examination.
“The victim was tried to be rescued by other tourists in the vicinity of Diamond Beach Nusa Penida. But when he was brought to the side, he was unconscious,” said Cakra Negara, the coordinator of the Nusa Penida SAR Alert Unit.
According to Cakra Negara, four SAR team officers were dispatched to the location to evacuate the victim.
However, Cakra Negara said that the obstacles faced by the SAR team when evacuating the Indian tourists were the steep paths, extreme weather, and tidal waves at the scene of the incident, making it difficult for SAR officers to rescue the deceased.
AL was evacuated by land by lifting his body using a stretcher from below to the top of the cliff.
“The evacuation process took approximately 35 minutes. The victim was then taken to Gema Shanti Hospital for examination,” added Cakra Negara.
Previously, the Government had reported that bad weather and extreme tidal waves would continue to occur in Nusa Penida until the end of this year, requiring tourists to be more careful when visiting one of the most beautiful tourist spots in Bali.
