Fatal Collision Between Fast Boats Claims German Tourist’s Life in Bali’s Nusa Penida Waters

A tragic collision occurred in Pasih Andus, Nusa Penida, Klungkung, Bali, involving two fast boats that ferried tourists for diving activities. As a result of the incident, a German national named Seibold Hans-Ulrich lost his life after falling into the water and being struck by the propeller of one of the boats.

The Nusa Penida Sub-District Police Chief, Kompol Ida Bagus Putra Sumerta, confirmed that the two boats involved in the accident were the Blue Lagoon and the Kabila Boat.

The Blue Lagoon Boat, captained by Komang Intrawan, carried 11 passengers, including Seibold Hans-Ulrich and four crew members. On the other hand, the Kabila Boat had only one captain on board, with no passengers. The journey began when Captain Komang departed from the Nusa Penida Dive Center and arrived in the waters of Cristal Bay at approximately 08:30 AM local time. After 45 minutes of diving, the Blue Lagoon Boat intended to continue its voyage to Manta Point, Nusa Penida.

“At the time of arrival at Pasih Andus, Nusa Penida, Bali suddenly the Kabila Boat, captained by I Made Suarnita, approached the Blue Lagoon Boat from the opposite direction,” said Sumerta on Thursday, 28th of September, 2023.

Sumerta explained that the captain of the Blue Lagoon Boat attempted to evade a collision with the Kabila Boat. However, their efforts were in vain. The Blue Lagoon Boat, carrying the German tourist, was struck from the front right side, and tragically, Hans also fell into the water.

“The German tourist fell into the water and was hit by the boat’s propeller,” Sumerta added.

Following the incident, the captain and crew of the Blue Lagoon Boat promptly rescued Hans and rushed him to Gema Shanti Hospital in Nusa Penida, Bali. Unfortunately, despite their efforts, the German tourist could not be saved.

This tragic incident has left the local authorities investigating the circumstances of the collision. The safety of tourists and passengers in Nusa Penida, Bali waters remains a priority concern, and authorities are expected to take necessary measures to prevent such accidents.
