Formula E Jakarta 2024 received discouraging news as FEO (Formula E Operation) has officially eliminated Jakarta from the competition calendar for the upcoming year. This decision generated significant interest from various stakeholders, including the DKI Jakarta provincial government.
Prasetyo Edi Marsudi, the Chairman of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, has underlined that Jakarta’s removal as the host city is a consequence of the concurrent scheduling of the 2024 election alongside the racing event.
In response to this development, PT Jakarta Propertindo (JakPro) has issued a statement in which they highlight their ongoing, intensive discussions with FEO to address the cancellation of Formula E Jakarta 2024.
The plan for Formula E Jakarta 2024 is to stage the event on June 8, 2024, at the Ancol Racing Circuit in North Jakarta. However, this date closely aligns with the second round of elections, potentially leading to conflicts of interest for certain parties.
As per the latest update shared by the FIA on their Instagram, the 2024 season is set to commence on 13 January 2024, in Mexico City, Mexico, and conclude on 21 July 2024, in London.
This global series of car racing competitions span 12 different countries on various continents, with Indonesia’s cancellation disappointing many Formula E enthusiasts. Despite the disappointment, they understand the need to respect the decisions made by the authorities in this matter.
At the outset, Formula E Jakarta aimed to draw a substantial number of both local and international tourists to Indonesia. Nonetheless, the Indonesian government has placed significant importance on the forthcoming 2024 elections, making it impossible to host the event concurrently.
About Formula E 2024
Formula E, initiated by the FIA in France in 2011, is an electric car racing series. It operates on a racing system similar to F1, with the primary distinction being the competition’s duration. Formula E is typically condensed into a single day, contrasting with the typical three-day format of F1 events.
The Formula E tracks are meticulously designed to endure diverse conditions and the varying climates of each host country. In the 2023 season, the Formula E World Champion title was claimed by Jake Dennis, representing the Avalanche Andretti team.
