Jakarta’s BMTH Concert Turns Chaotic and Officially Cancelled

The British rock band BMTH (Bring Me The Horizon) concert on 10 November 2023, at Beach City International Stadium in Ancol, North Jakarta, ended in chaos after the event promoter, Ravel Entertainment, took the stage and requested a brief intermission in the middle of the show.

On the first day, the promoter returned to announce the immediate cancellation of the BMTH concert after taking 30-minute breaks. The following day, 11 November 2023, Ravel Junard, representing the promoter team, issued a statement officially cancelling the second day of the BMTH Jakarta concert.

Several factors contributed to the chaotic turn of events and the deviation from the initial plan for the BMTH concert in Jakarta. The promoter cited stage-related issues that compelled them to halt the show that night, much to the audience’s displeasure, resulting in boos.

In response to the cancellation, angered concert-goers took to the stage and initiated a riot, venting their frustration through acts of vandalism by damaging stage equipment.

The primary reason for BMTH’s reluctance to continue the concert was the perceived safety concerns related to the stage system, which posed potential safety risks to both the band and the audience.

The aftermath of the BMTH concert chaos in Jakarta also left an impact on one of the band’s members, Oliver Skyes. After the concert is cancelled, an audience member steals Oliver’s goat bone-shaped microphone stand to sell it.

A Twitter post from @CUTMYLIPBKLYN revealed that an audience member was spotted in the act stealing the mic stand and afterwards posting selfies with it on the internet.

This incident elicited strong emotional reactions from many Indonesian netizens who commented on the post. The majority of them expressed that such fans displayed a poor attitude, which sullied the reputation of BMTH fans in Indonesia.

Subsequently, the owner of the photo, Pasla Haikal Pirgiawan, addressed and precipitously refuted the claim of him taking the mic stand of Oliver Sykes in a Twitter thread. In his tweet, he clarified that he had solely been capturing photographs and had not taken the mic stand.

Furthermore, he presented evidence confirming that the mic stand had not gone missing, a fact corroborated by one of the event’s promoters, Ravel Entertainment.

Promoter Offers Full Refund for BMTH Concert Tickets

As a gesture of apology, Ravel Entertainment, the concert promoter, has decided to offer full refunds to attendees who purchased tickets for the second day of the BMTH concert. For those who attended the first day, their refunds will be calculated in proportion to their ticket price. The specifics of the refund process will be promptly announced on the social media Ravel Ent.

The recent tumultuous BMTH concert in Jakarta has garnered attention from various international media outlets. They have highlighted the promoter’s negligence in handling stage security and technical aspects of the concert, which has harmed the reputation of the bands involved. Additionally, the audience’s response to the unexpected situation has also been criticized for its perceived anarchic behaviour.
