Chinese Tourist Found Dead While Snorkeling at Jemeluk Beach Bali

On Monday, 29th January 2024, a Chinese tourist identified as DH (42 years old) was discovered drowned while snorkelling at Jemeluk Beach in Purwakerti, Abang, Karangasem. According to the Karangasem police, the victim, accompanied by her husband and children, had breakfast in an area near the beach before engaging in snorkelling activities.

At 10 AM local time, the victim and her husband hurried to snorkel at Jemeluk Beach. However, just 30 minutes later, the husband urgently called for help from locals, holding the victim face down and motionless in the water.

A nearby eyewitness promptly intervened, providing artificial respiration, but unfortunately, the victim showed no signs of movement. Shortly after, a paddleboard arrived to rescue the victim and transport her back to the shore.

Subsequently, the victim underwent attempts at artificial respiration and CPR, but unfortunately, there was no response. Consequently, the victim’s family, along with eyewitnesses, transported her to the Bali Sehat Abang Clinic. Shortly thereafter, the medical team officially pronounced the victim deceased.

The Chinese tourist was on vacation with her husband and their 12-year-old child, hailing from Shanghai. They had spent the night in the Amed area of Bali, aiming to appreciate the underwater beauty of East Bali’s waters.

According to details provided by AKP Gusti Bagus Suastawan of the Karangasem police, the victim was located 70 meters from the beach. Presently, the deceased victim’s remains from Jemeluk Beach have been placed at Karangasem Hospital for processing and repatriation to Shanghai, China. The police are still investigating the precise cause of the victim’s death during the snorkelling incident at Jemeluk Beach.
