Presidential Election on 14th February 2024 Officially Declared as Indonesia’s Public Holiday

The presidential election (Pemilu) on Wednesday, 14th February 2024, is officially designated as a public holiday in Indonesia. Circular No. 1 of 2024 from the Ministry of Manpower outlines the holiday for workers, emphasising that entrepreneurs and business owners are mandated to ensure employees can exercise their voting rights.

14th February 2024 marks a significant day for Indonesia as it celebrates a democratic event with a presidential and general election across all regions simultaneously. The electorate will cast votes for the president, vice president, and members of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia from national to regional.

Indonesian citizens residing in other countries also participated in the presidential elections that day. For February 2024, the Indonesian government has declared several other national holidays. Here is the complete information:

Thursday, 8th February 2024: National Holiday of Isra Mi’raj of the Prophet Muhammad
Friday, 9th February 2024: Chinese New Year 2575 Kongzili
Saturday, 10th February 2024: Chinese New Year 2575 Kongzili
Wednesday, 14th February 2024: National Presidential Election

For expatriates or foreign tourists holidaying in Indonesia on that day, there are several considerations to remember. In general, specific industries, such as hospitality and food and beverage, may close for specific hours and resume operations after the conclusion of the election voting period.

While this may not be the case universally, it is advisable to be prepared for such closures. Additionally, various government administration offices will be closed on the day of the presidential election, so any necessary tasks should be addressed before or after the election day.
