“He told me I could set up my tent there for free, assuring me it was safe. I hadn’t eaten much all day, and he mentioned the nearby restaurant was closed. He said he’d come back with snacks. I offered to pay him, but he refused,” she recounted.
Around two hours later, he returned with snacks, appearing friendly, even showing the French backpacker some unique spots in the area. Subsequently, she asked him to leave as she wanted to rest.
However, the man persisted, repeatedly asking the victim for a one-minute kiss. The victim offered IDR 100,000 for him to leave, but instead, he grew more aggressive, threatening to bring friends.
Feeling frightened, the victim quickly packed up and hurried back to the homestay. Thankfully, the local community promptly intervened, providing assistance and support to the victim.
According to the Acting Head of the Probolinggo Regency Tourism Office, Bambang Heri Wahjudi, they have conducted mediation with the French backpacker and offered apologies for the distressing incident. They assured that measures would be taken to prevent such occurrences in the future.
