Caught on Camera: Students Engage in Brawl in Bekasi, Some Armed with Melee Weapons

Share:

In a troubling occurrence, a brawl erupted among students in the Bekasi area, specifically in Bojong Koneng, West Cikarang, Bekasi, on Thursday, 29th February 2024, around 5:20 PM. According to reports, the altercation involved students believed to be from a junior high school. A video shared by the @radenmascemen account depicted the students wielding various weapons such as sickles, samurai swords, and iron rods during the confrontation.

As a consequence of the brawl, traffic congestion ensued in the Bojong Koneng area. The situation escalated rapidly, prompting the students to disperse hastily, leaving behind scattered melee weapons as they fled.

These students quickly dispersed by riding their motorcycles hastily and without helmets. Just a few days prior, another student brawl erupted in Lengah Sari, Bungin, Bekasi, on Saturday, 24th February 2024. This altercation involved two groups of junior high school students, although the exact cause remains unknown.

Moreover, a previous incident resulted in fatal consequences when a student brawl occurred at the Grand Wisata Bekasi Housing Complex on Thursday, 22nd February 2024. In response, the Bekasi police promptly launched an investigation to apprehend the perpetrators responsible for the stabbing incident, which led to one fatality and one injury. According to IPTU Agum, Head of the Tambun Police Criminal Investigation Unit, they managed to apprehend one of the main culprits.

The police reported that the victim was a student from a junior high school in South Tambun. Unfortunately, student brawls are still prevalent in many major cities across Indonesia.

The root cause of these conflicts often remains unclear, influenced by various factors including the environment and hierarchy among students. Additionally, easy access to sharp weapons such as samurai swords and sickles exacerbates the situation.

If you witness such an incident on the street, it’s crucial to report it to the nearest police station promptly to prevent further escalation or loss of life.
