The ill-fated vessel was struck by high waves while sailing from Asha Resort Pulau Payung to Pantai Mutiara Jakarta Utara.

As a result of the incident, a Taiwanese national named Shi Yi (40-45 years old) was reported missing. A joint SAR team is still searching for the victim.

“One Taiwanese national is still reported missing and is being searched for by the joint team,” said Jarot.

The incident occurred when KM Parikudus was sailing in bad weather conditions and high sea waves. The ship was then hit by a large wave and capsized.

“The bad weather conditions and high sea waves caused KM Parikudus to be hit by high waves and capsized,” said Jarot.

All passengers and crew were evacuated by the joint SAR team. Those who survived were taken to Pulau Tidung and Pulau Pramuka for first aid.

As of Tuesday (12/3) morning, the joint SAR team has yet to find any sign of Shi Yi. The search is still ongoing with the expansion of the search area and the involvement of more personnel.

Prior to this, a cruise ship caught fire while passing through the waters of Kepulauan Seribu, DKI Jakarta, Sunday (10/3/2024) afternoon. The cause of the fire was suspected to be due to engine trouble.

The police have appealed to ship operators to always pay attention to weather conditions before sailing. In addition, passengers are also advised to always use safety equipment during the voyage.
