Starting from 10th March 2024, the Customs and Excise Office at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport has imposed restrictions on certain goods entering Indonesia from abroad. According to Regulation No. 36 of 2023 issued by the Minister of Trade regarding Import Policies and Regulations, individuals are prohibited from bringing in goods without an import permit from the Ministry of Trade.
Gatot Sugeng Wibowo, the Head of the Customs and Excise Office at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, highlighted several passenger items that are subject to restrictions, including:
- Passengers are allowed a maximum of 2 pairs of footwear each.
- Each passenger is restricted to a maximum of 2 bags.
- Textile items are capped at 5 pieces per passenger.
- Passengers can bring a maximum of 5 electronic goods with a total value not exceeding FOB 1,500.
- For cellular phones, handhelds, and tablet computers, the limit is 2 pieces per passenger annually.
Gatot Sugeng Wibowo emphasized the significance of Minister of Trade Regulation Number 36 of 2023, shifting control over certain imported goods from Post-Border to Border. He urged importers to adhere to this regulation and plan their import activities accordingly.
Additionally, he advised the public, especially travellers, to take note of the regulation’s restrictions on the number of goods allowed to be brought into the country without an import permit.
The policy was prompted by the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport Customs and Excise and the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM) discovery concerning 2,564 tons of viral processed bread (Milk Bun) imported from Thailand. These bread preparations were seized from 33 instances of passenger goods inspections at the airport in February 2024.
