BMKG Warns of Rain as Tropical Cyclones Loom in Denpasar and Major Cities in Indonesia

Denpasar, Indonesia – April 16, 2024 – The Indonesian Meteorological, Climatological, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) has issued a warning for residents of Denpasar and other major cities across the country to brace for heavy rainfall in the coming days. This weather phenomenon is attributed to the presence of two tropical cyclones currently forming in the region.

According to BMKG officials, the two cyclones are expected to bring significant amounts of precipitation, potentially leading to flash floods and landslides in certain areas. Denpasar, the capital of Bali, is specifically mentioned as being at high risk due to its geographical location.

“We urge residents, especially those living in flood-prone areas, to stay alert and prepared for potential emergencies,” advised a BMKG spokesperson. “Residents should closely monitor weather updates and follow any instructions issued by local authorities.”

 The Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts heavy rain for today in various regions including potential for rain with moderate to heavy intensity which can be accompanied by lightning and strong winds at 14:30 WITA in Jembrana Regency: Negara, Mendoyo, Pekutatan, Melaya, Jembrana, Tabanan Regency: West Salemadeg, Penebel, Baturiti, Pupuan, Regency Badung: Petang, Bangli Regency: Bangli, Kintamani, Karangasem Regency: Rendang, Buleleng Regency: Gerokgak, Busungbiu, Sukasada, Sawan, Kubucepatn, and surrounding areas.

This situation can extend to the Tabanan Regency area: Selemadeg, East Salamadeg, Margo, Gianyar Regency: Tampaksiring, Tegallalang, Payangan, Klungkung Regency: Nusa Penida, Bangli Regency: Susut, Tembuku, Karangasem Regency: Sidemen, Manggis, Karangasem, Abang, Uangdem, Selat, Kubu, Buleleng Regency: Seririt, Banjar, Buleleng, Tejakula, and surrounding areas. This condition is estimated to continue until 17:00 WITA
