Algerian Tourist Deported After Overstaying and Refusing to Pay for Food

Immigration Office Ngurah Rai detained an Algerian tourist with the initials SAB who violated his stay permit and caused trouble because he refused to pay for food.

Head of Ngurah Rai Immigration Office Suhendra said the tourist was arrested based on reports from the public.

“He (SAB) ate at the stall and refused to pay. He continues to set his own price and pay as he wishes,” Suhendra said in a statement, as Kompas reported.

This means that the Algerian tourist set the price at will and did not follow the cost of the stall/warung. Of course, this is detrimental to food sellers.

The immigration team immediately arrested the Algerian tourist, who was known to be staying in the Legian area. The arrest revealed that SAB had overstayed in Bali.

Based on the investigation, SAB last entered Indonesia through I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport on May 17, 2022, and has a residence permit that has expired since September 15, 2023.

SAB has been detained in the Ngurah Rai Immigration detention room while waiting for the deportation process. A case like SAB is not new and has often happened in Bali. Earlier this month, immigration also detained a Canadian tourist.

A Canadian tourist with the initials BVP was secured in the South Kuta area due to overstay.

It is known that BVP arrived in Indonesia on January 13 using a visa on arrival. After further investigation, BVP had overstayed for 52 days.

Since she arrived in Bali, BVP has stayed in several places such as Sanur, Nusa Lembongan, Lombok, Kuta Lombok, Gili Meno, Nusa Penida, Uluwatu, and finally Tabanan. However, due to financial problems, BVP could not return to his home country.

Suhendra added that his party hopes that the public will be involved in monitoring the presence of foreigners to support the tourism ecosystem in Bali.

“If there are foreigners who are suspected or suspected of violating immigration rules, the public can report it through the official social media channels of Ngurah Rai Immigration,” he said.
