Indonesia Will Introduce a New Passport Design and Color

Share:

Indonesia’s iconic green passport will change its design. The Directorate General of Immigration of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights revealed plans to change the design and color of Indonesian passports. The newly designed passport will be introduced to coincide with the 79th Indonesian Independence Day on August 17, 2024.

The new Indonesian passport design will have a higher level of security than Indonesian banknotes. In addition, the passport’s color will be changed to match the typical Indonesian colors.

Director General of Immigration at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights Silmy Karim said the replacement of the passport design was carried out to strengthen the security system per the standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), as reported by KOMPAS.

The new design is claimed to have stronger security standards so that passports are not easily faked.

As is known, the passport that has been circulating is green and has a picture of a Garuda bird on the front. The new design will remain 48 sheets long.

The theme that will be used for the new passport design is Nusantara fabric. In addition to the new color, the images on the front pages will be decorated with various motifs of typical Nusantara fabrics.

The new passport will use UV and intaglio ink, paper, security tape, a watermark, and hologram technology. An electronic chip containing biometric data will also be added. Here’s the new design uploaded on the @seaasia.news Instagram account

The new design only applies to general passports. People who want to replace their passports can visit the nearest immigration office starting August 17, 2025. Passport replacement may still require a fee because it is related to non-tax state revenue.

Currently, there are four passport colors in the world, namely green, blue, red, and black. In Indonesia, there are three colors that are used for different purposes. Ordinary passports use green covers, official are blue, and diplomatic are black.
