For those with a passion for research, Indonesia offers a unique and enticing opportunity. Its abundant natural resources and diverse environment make it a particularly attractive destination for conducting scientific research in the environmental field.
PP 41/2006 provides specific rules regarding research activities carried out by foreigners. To conduct research and development activities in Indonesia, foreign universities, research and development institutions, foreign business entities, and foreigners must obtain a written permit from the authorized government agency.
The stay permit from the authorized government organization is granted for a maximum period of 1 year. It may be extended a maximum of 2 times consecutively for 1 year each.
Furthermore, foreign universities, foreign research and development institutions, foreign business entities, and foreigners conducting research and development activities must have guarantor institutions and partners whose competence and eligibility are determined by the coordination team.
What is Research KITAS?
If you already have permission and sponsorship, the next step is to apply for a visa. In Indonesia, there is a research KITAS or research visa, which is a temporary stay visa for foreign researchers.
Research KITAS is included in the C315 Visa, specifically for foreigners who take part in training and scientific research in the Indonesian Territory and have obtained permission from the authorized agency.
If your sponsor is BRIN (National Research and Innovation Agency), the application can be made through (ristekbrin.go.id) for all necessary procedures or visit the immigration office.
All procedures and communications can be done online, from registering an account and filling out the application form, uploading all required documents, and submitting reports.
