Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan revealed that Starlink, a satellite-based internet service, will launch in Indonesia in the next two weeks or mid-May 2024.
Starlink is Elon Musk’s satellite-based internet. The Starlink network trial will be conducted in Indonesia’s future capital, Nusantara in East Kalimantan, in mid-May 2024.
According to Luhut, the launch of Starlink will have a good impact on Indonesia. He says there are many blind spots or areas that are not covered by the internet in Indonesia, and these spots need internet access.
“I spoke to Elon (Elon Musk, owner of Starlink) today, three days ago. We will do something, but we haven’t officially announced it yet. I think we will announce it in Bali as soon as possible,” Luhut said at the ‘Jakarta Future Forum Blue Horizon, Green Growth’ event in Jakarta on Friday (3/5), as reported by Antara.
Starlink is a satellite constellation project developed by SpaceX in 2015. The project aims to provide internet access to the entire world community.
