The Bali Urban Subway project officially started on September 4, 2024. The project aims to complete the construction by the end of the second quarter of 2028 and have it fully operational by the end of 2031.

The Bali Urban Subway LRT project officially started along with the Ngeruwak Ceremony. The ceremony marks the beginning of the project, which was initiated in February 2024.

Meanwhile, the Ngeruwak Ceremony took place at the Kuta Parking Centre, attended by the Acting Governor of Bali, Sang Made Mahendra Jaya.

It seems that foreign tourists will be targeted as the primary market for the Bali LRT.

As reported by Detik, Director of PT Sarana Bali Dwipa Jaya (SBDJ), Ari Askhara projects the Bali LRT ticket rate for foreign tourist passengers to be in the range of US$40 per person. According to him, the ticket can be used for a week for all routes.

“Our projection for tourists (tariffs) is between US$35 to US$40 in a week. (For example) if 40 dollars is around IDR 600 thousand. So (tourists can use )a week, anytime, anywhere. It is more efficient,” Ari Askhara said in Bali on Wednesday, September 4, 2024.

There are plans to construct the Bali Urban Subway in four phases. Meanwhile, phase one which includes I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport-Kuta Sentral Parking-Seminyak-Berawa-Cemagi with a length of 16 kilometers.

Then, phase two from I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport-Jimbaran-Unud (University Udayana)-Nusa Dua along 13.5 km. Phase three includes Central Parking Kuta-Sesetan-Renon-Sanur. Furthermore, phase four includes Renon- Sukawati-Ubud.

The project is built underground with a depth of 30 meters

The construction team will construct the Bali Urban Subway underground at a depth of 30 meters. This depth, determined based on a comprehensive feasibility study, is considered safe and in accordance with the regulations of Bali Province, ensuring the safety of all passengers.

“The Badung Regency Government set 15 meters (down). The strength is the same, but we still take 30 meters to be safe,” Ari said.

For information, PT SBDJ has appointed PT Indotek as the main contractor with China Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC). The company will work with local contractor PT Sinar Bali Bina Karya (Sinar Bali) in the construction work.

According to Ari, Indotek has the technical capability to work on a project as big as the Bali LRT. Meanwhile, CRCC was also chosen because it has a reputation as a global rail transportation contractor that has experience of building 200 thousand kilometers (km) in over 100 countries.
