Irish Tourist Falls on Mount Rinjani Slope, Found Smoking a Cigarette

An Irish tourist fell while climbing Mount Rinjani in West Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. Fortunately, he survived and only suffered minor injuries. A unique moment occurred because he seemed to sit casually and smoke on the rocks while waiting for help.

A tourist named Paul Farrel fell from a height of 200 meters on the slopes of Mount Rinjani on Thursday, October 10, 2024. As CNN reported, he fell because he slipped on gravel and then fell over. Fortunately, he only suffered minor injuries.

After the rescue team found him, Farrel was seen lighting a cigarette. He was worried that he would not be found for rescue and was very grateful for the team’s help.

“Thank you very much. You guys have saved my life. I will never be able to come back without you guys. I will stay safe after this and not go too far from my hotel,” Farrel told the rescuers, as reported by Viral Press and Stuff.

The dramatic rescue action involving the Irish tourist turned out to be in the public spotlight after the video of his rescue went viral on social media.

The video showing the seconds of Farrel’s rescue from his fall on the slopes of Mount Rinjani, West Nusa Tenggara, sparked many comments from netizens.

In the video, rescuers use pulleys and ropes to evacuate Farrel, who had fallen 200 meters and successfully pull him to safety.

The online footage shows the volunteer rescuers pulling Farrel to safety using pulleys.

He hugs his rescuers tightly as he is pulled back to higher ground. Climbing on Mount Rinjani reportedly recently claimed the life of a 16-year-old teenager who fell into a crevasse.

Many netizens praised the bravery and speed of the rescue team’s response in evacuating Farrel in very dangerous conditions.
