Russian Tourists Arrested in Bali for Running International Prostitution Ring

Bali Police have uncovered an international prostitution ring, with two Russian nationals, a 26-year-old woman (AK) and a 31-year-old man (MK), arrested for their involvement in running the illegal operation. The couple has been managing the business from a luxury hotel in Canggu, North Kuta, since 2022.

The police discovered that the pair were offering sex workers from various countries, including Indonesia, through a website accessible in 129 countries. In Indonesia alone, their services were available in 12 cities, including Bali. The suspects were arrested on January 10, 2025.

The Arrest and Investigation

The case began when police received information about a website connected to the prostitution ring/network. After conducting an investigation, the Badung Police identified a suspicious activity involving Russian nationals. Officers later raided a hotel near Berawa Beach, where they found a sex worker with a customer in one of the rooms. This led them to the suspects’ villa in Banjar Kelod, where they were arrested.

During the raid, police seized several items, including bed sheets, used condoms, 16 mobile phones, one laptop, two passports, 305 SIM cards, and various bank cards and documents.

Bali Police Chief, Inspector General Daniel Adityajaya, explained that AK was the primary organiser of the operation, acting as the “pimp” or controller in Bali. She was responsible for managing the website and handling financial transactions. MK, the male suspect, served as the manager, directly communicating with customers and managing bookings.

The network organised sex workers, including 15 women from the Bali area, and even one Russian national. Prices for a date ranged from US$300 to US$350 (around IDR 3 million), with the profits split among the sex worker, AK, and MK. The distribution was 50% for the sex worker, 40% for AK, and 10% for MK, with payments processed through AK’s bank account.

Both suspects face serious charges for involving in prostitution ring. They are accused under the Indonesian Electronic Information and Transactions Law, which carries a penalty of up to 6 years in prison and/or a fine of up to IDR 1 billion. Additionally, they are charged under the Anti-Trafficking Law, which could lead to a sentence of 3 to 15 years in prison, along with a fine ranging from IDR 120 million to IDR 600 million.
