Today, February 12, 2025, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto will host Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the Bogor Presidential Palace. The welcoming ceremony will be followed by a bilateral meeting where both leaders will discuss areas of cooperation that benefit both nations, including potential joint projects such as the development of a fifth-generation fighter jet.
President Erdogan’s state visit began the evening of February 11, 2025, when his presidential plane landed at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base in Jakarta. Prabowo warmly greeted Erdogan at the foot of the airplane steps. The leaders exchanged a firm handshake in the rain, accompanied by an official welcoming ceremony.

Erdogan and his wife, Emine Erdogan, honoured the Indonesian and Turkish flags carried by troops. The ceremony featured a line of honour with 20 soldiers on each side, six cannon blasts, and the sounds of the “Drum of Victory,“ followed by the traditional Gambang Kromong music that enhanced the warm and intimate atmosphere.
Following the ceremonial welcome, President Prabowo personally escorted President Erdogan and Mrs. Emine Erdogan to their residence in Indonesia, showing both respect and friendship. The two leaders travelled together in the same vehicle on their way to the Bogor Palace.
Strengthening Bilateral Relations
Rizal, an Indonesian official, commented, “Since Prabowo became the Minister of Defense, he has maintained a close relationship with Erdogan and Turkey. This visit, along with the cooperation plans, shows the mutual benefits of this closeness.”
Erdogan’s visit to Indonesia is part of a broader trip that includes stops in Malaysia and Pakistan, as these countries are key partners for Turkey in the region.
Following the state ceremony at Bogor Palace, President Erdogan will attend a business forum to promote collaboration between Indonesian and Turkish companies. The visit promises to deepen ties not only between the governments but also among businesses from both nations.
Rizal added, “In addition to intergovernmental discussions, the visit will be marked by agreements between business leaders from both Indonesia and Turkey.”
