Bali is globally renowned for its stunning coastlines, and Berawa Beach stands as one of the island’s charming yet relatively tranquil beach destinations. Located in Canggu, North Kuta, Badung Regency, Berawa Beach is particularly favoured by those seeking surf-friendly waves, golden sunsets, and a more relaxed atmosphere compared to some of Bali’s more frequented beaches.

The Charm of Berawa Beach Bali

Although Berawa Beach may not yet enjoy the same level of fame as beaches like Kuta or Seminyak, it possesses a unique appeal that continues to attract both domestic and international tourists. Here are some features that make Berawa Beach a standout:

Ideal Conditions for Surfing

Berawa Beach is particularly well known among the surfing community due to its consistent, sizeable waves. It is an excellent location for both seasoned surfers and beginners, with surfboards readily available for rent and instructors offering lessons on-site.

A More Serene Atmosphere

The beach is generally less crowded compared to more commercial tourist destinations in Bali, making it a peaceful place for visitors seeking a more relaxed experience. Whether you’re looking to take a long walk, sunbathe, or simply sit quietly by the sea, Berawa Beach offers a calming alternative.

Access to Nearby Beach Clubs

Just a short walk from the beach is Finns Beach Club, a popular venue that features swimming pools, music by live DJs, and a variety of food and beverage options. It offers a lively setting for socialising and experiencing Bali’s coastal nightlife.

Wide Sandy Stretch for Relaxation

The expansive stretch of sand is perfect for sunbathing, reading a book, or practising yoga. With plenty of space, it never feels overcrowded, even during the busier seasons.

Kiteboarding and Kitesurfing

Due to the strong coastal breeze, Berawa Beach is also a great place for kiteboarding and kitesurfing. Enthusiasts from around the world often come to practise and enjoy the sport here.

How to Get to Berawa Beach, One of the Best Beaches in Canggu

Berawa Beach is accessible by both two-wheeled and four-wheeled vehicles. From Denpasar city centre, it typically takes around 20 minutes to reach the beach, traffic permitting. One common route from Denpasar is via the Tanah Lot road, after which you turn left towards the beach.

For those arriving from I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, the drive to Berawa Beach is approximately 24.1 kilometres and takes around 50 minutes without traffic. From the airport, take Jalan Bypass Ngurah Rai towards Sunset Road, using Starbucks Reserve Dewata as a landmark.

After passing the cafe, turn right onto Jalan Raya Kerobokan and continue towards Jalan Petitenget. From there, follow the road until you reach Berawa Beach.

However, traffic around Canggu can become highly congested, particularly in the afternoon. For this reason, it is often more convenient to travel by motorbike through Canggu Shortcuts. Travellers arriving directly from the airport with luggage are advised to check in at their accommodation before proceeding to the beach to avoid inconvenience.

There is no official entrance fee for Berawa Beach. Visitors are only required to pay a parking fee: IDR 2,000 for motorbikes or scooter and IDR 5,000 for cars.
