Address System in Indonesia, Things You Should Know! – If you are moving to Indonesia for the first time, it will be very difficult to read the address because of the details included. Here, we will explain more about the address system in Indonesia so it will be easier for you to understand.

It’s common to find a long, complicated and detailed address in Indonesia as it is commonly written as follows:

Recipient’s name

House/Office

Road/Street/ Building Number

Hamlet/Village/Sub-district
TOWN/CITY, followed by the postcode

INDONESIA

Plus, you will find several digit numbers for the Postal Codes in Indonesia. Postal Code or usually called Kodepos here are made up of five digits as follows:

  • The region is represented by the first digit,
  • The regency or city by the second and third digits,
  • And the sub-district within the regency or city by the fourth digit.
  • The village or commune is indicated by the last digit.

In Jakarta, the subdistrict is represented by the third digit, the commune or village by the fourth, and the zero by the fifth. According to the country’s regions, the first digit is distributed as follows:

  1. Jakarta, part of Banten and West Java.
  2. Aceh, North and West Sumatra, Riau and Riau Islands.
  3. Bengkulu, Jambi, Bangka Belitung, South Sumatra and Lampung.
  4. Banten and West Java.
  5. Central Java and Yogyakarta.
  6. East Java.
  7. Kalimantan.
  8. Nusa Tenggara and Bali.
  9. Sulawesi, Papua and Maluku.

  • dukuh – hamlet
  • desa – village
  • jalan – road (normally shorten as Jl.)
  • kelurahan – village
  • kecamatan – district

Lokasi implies location, therefore a home number can be given here if the search is being done by a road.
