America’s COVID-19 Pandemic Ending, What of Indonesia?

Share:

22nd September 2022 – President of the United States, Joe Biden, said that the Covid-19 pandemic in America has ended. Even if the country is still having issues with Covid-19, he feels that the situation is rapidly improving.

Meanwhile, for Indonesia, the Deputy Minister of Health (Wamenkes) Dante Saksono Harbuwono stated that he doesn’t know when the Covid-19 pandemic turns to endemic in Indonesia.

The Ministry of Health is still monitoring the development of Covid-19 cases in Indonesia, which is still around 2,000 cases. Thus, health protocols and staying vigilant about Covid-19 must still be done even if other countries have stopped doing it.

Kemenkes will monitor through WHO as a reference for mapping so that the Covid-19 endemic can be enforced in Indonesia.

However, Harbuwono stated that the Ministry of Health is still unsure when the pandemic will be declared over and turned into an endemic in the country.

Covid-19 cases in Indonesia is that the numbers are still present. Harbuwono said that one of the main concerns about it is the children, as many children are getting Covid-19 due to schools reopening again.

Other than that, the number of third or booster vaccination doses is still low and stagnant at 26 percent.

“If the number of vaccinations is still low, we are not yet confident to release the pandemic to endemic. If we haven’t achieved that, we should not turn the pandemic into endemic,” said Harbuwono in the MPR/DPR RI Building on Tuesday (20/9).

Currently, the number of Covid-19 cases as of Wednesday (21/9) has recorded 2,384 new cases. 974 new cases among them are from Jakarta with 18 deaths in total. The number of active cases has decreased by 625 with 2,981 recoveries. The third or booster vaccination has increased by 109,238 with a total of 62,879,386 people having been vaccinated at least three times.
