Did those of you in Bali and Lombok feel the ground shaking? An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.3 shook Sumbawa, 15 kilometers southwest of North Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), and was recently felt in Denpasar, Bali.

The Meteorology Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) in Denpasar, Bali, noted that the earthquake was centered at coordinates 8.40 south latitude (LS) and 116.03 east longitude (BT).

The earthquake’s epicenter was at a depth of 10 kilometers, a relatively shallow depth, which occurred at 16.11 Wita or 15.11 WIB, indicating a significant seismic event.

Meanwhile, the earthquake that was felt in Denpasar occurred in a short duration of about two to three seconds.

This earthquake was not reported to have the potential to trigger tsunami waves.

“No tsunami potential,” BMKG said on its website.

However, the BMKG also warned of the possibility of another smaller earthquake or aftershocks in a short time.

Residents scattered outside in Lombok

The impact from the earthquake were strong enough to be felt throughout the island of Lombok. Sources from various national media said the earthquake was so strong that it shook the houses.

Because the epicenter was located in Lombok, the energy were felt more strongly than in Bali.

“I am still shaking from the strong earthquake,” Yumna, a Mataram, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) resident, told SindoNews.

This news was written when there were no reports of damage caused by the earthquake.
