Australian Tourists Unexpectedly Sail into Yogyakarta Beach on Their Way to the Airport

Two Australian tourists were allegedly stranded when they suddenly pulled over with a sailboat on Glagah Beach, Yogyakarta.

Apparently, the two female tourists travelled to Yogyakarta Beach because they wanted to fly to Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA).

“I just want to go to the airport,” one of the tourists told Detiknews on Friday, September 20, 2024.

The tourists were Champion Ella (23) and Mola Charlotte (23). Ella said she came to Kulon Progo only to return to Bali by plane via YIA in Temon. Glagah Beach was chosen as the location to pull over because it is adjacent to the YIA airport.

Ella also told her friend Mola how she and she had arrived in the waters of Kulon Progo. It started when she was vacationing in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara.

In Lombok, Ella met her friend, who happened to have a sailboat. That’s when the idea came up to explore the waters of Java using the boat.

“I got a plane from Australia to Denpasar, and then I gotta plane to Sumbawa from Bali and then got a ferry from Sumbawa to Lombok, and then I got friends boat to here, Java,” she explained.

Ella said her vacation period was still long, so she planned to continue her trip to Bali by plane. After Bali, she will return to her homeland in Australia.

“I plan now to go back to Bali and back home,” she said.

Local residents were excited when two female tourists suddenly pulled over using a sailboat in the Yogyakarta beach area. Even the SAR team was surprised by the incident.

Aris Widiatmoko, Coordinator of Satlinmas Rescue Istimewa (SRI) Region V Kulon Progo, said that the stranded tourists were first noticed by SRI Region V personnel who were on duty.

Previously, the two Australian tourists sailed from Lombok for seven days before finally arriving at Glagah Beach.

“It was confirmed that the two tourists initially flew to Bali Island and headed to Lombok for a vacation. After Lombok, they sailed to Java Island for seven days and pulled over with fishermen to the waters of Glagah Beach through a moored boat,” said the SRI Region V Kulon Progo Satlinmas Team, as quoted from Kumparan.
