The plan to develop and build a train-based mass transportation corridor in Bali (Bali Urban Rail and Associated Facilities) is growing. This is marked by the interest of many investors who want to invest in the project.

One of the investors, PT Bumi Indah Prima Consortium, has submitted qualification documents to PT Sarana Bali Dwipa Jaya (SBDJ), the authorized party in developing Bali Urban Rail and Associated Facilities. The submission occurred at the Wiswa Sabha Utama Building of the Bali Governor’s Office.

The government also supports the development of a subway in Bali and has started looking for investors.

Minister of Investment/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board Bahlil Lahadalia supports this and thinks the Bali subway will bring in a new source of revenue and become a new icon for Bali.

Bali Acting Governor Sang Made Mahendra Jaya in Denpasar on Wednesday and mandated PT Jamkrida Bali Mandara and PT Sarana Bali Dwipa Jaya (SBDJ) to develop the underground transportation support infrastructure.

“PT SBDJ has moved to conduct an investment auction through a qualification process; this aims to find the right global investor partners for the rail-based mass public transportation system project in Bali, with one document submission showing the interest of large investors,” he told Antara.

To date, the project has garnered significant international interest, with eight major investors expressing their desire to be part of this transformative endeavor. These investors hail from various countries, including three from Europe, two from China, one from Malaysia, and two from Indonesia, further highlighting the global significance of the Bali Urban Rail and Associated Facilities project.

Lately, several accesses to tourist attractions such as Kuta, Seminyak, Canggu, Sanur, and Ubud have been congested almost all the time. This condition needs to be addressed because, as a world tourist destination, Bali needs a modern transportation system that is safe, comfortable, environmentally friendly, and can guarantee the accuracy of travel time.

This development is urgent, considering that the tourism sector is the backbone of Bali’s economy. In 2023, the number of tourists coming to Bali reached 15,163,735, and in 2024, it is targeted to reach 20 million.

“In the future, the number of tourists coming to Bali every year is projected to continue to grow, so Bali needs to be organized to preserve the nature and uniqueness of Balinese culture, and tourists feel safe and comfortable,” said Sang Made Mahendra Jaya.

News of infrastructure development in Bali has been on the rise lately, especially after the development of an international airport in North Bali. What do you think about the subway construction in Bali?
