Expats who want to stay in Indonesia in their old age can apply for Retirement KITAP or Pension KITAP. Moreover, destinations such as Bali and Jakarta are starting to be looked at by expats as a place to retire.

KITAP stands for Permanent Residence Permit Card, the most sought-after identity card for foreigners who want to live in Indonesia. Retirement KITAP is a five years visa that allow foreigner to live in Indonesia.

As we all know, in order to live in a country, we need an identity card from a government organization. In Indonesia, people from abroad can obtain a KITAP or Permanent Residence Permit Card and stay for a long time.

The KITAP visa is by far the most comprehensive, cost-effective, and stress-free visa available. It is an identity card that you can apply for at any time if you need a longer stay in Indonesia.

Overall, KITAP will save you a lot of travel time, money, and stress and can also reduce your stress levels. This is what makes KITAP the number one choice for expats who want to stay in Indonesia for a longer period of time.

Unlike KITAS or Retirement KITAS, which is an annual permit, obtaining KITAP means you no longer need to make annual trips to the Indonesian immigration office or spend months processing and renewing your residence permit documents each year.

Apart from being the most comprehensive visa, KITAP is also one of the most difficult visas to obtain. Let’s take a look at how to obtain a Retirement KITAP.

Who can apply for Retirement KITAP?

The candidates who are eligible to obtain a KITAP license in Indonesia are:

  • Foreigners with an Indonesian spouse, meaning the expatriate must be in a relationship with an Indonesian citizen.
  • Foreign investors, directors, or commissioners in Indonesian companies who have been issued KITAS for 3 consecutive years from the same company with the same position
  • Indonesian citizens who wish to regain their citizenship. Some may change their citizenship due to work, family, or other factors.
  • If he/she wants to regain his/her residence permit in Indonesia, then he/she must re-applying for a KITAP permit.

The main requirement for KITAP applicants for retirees is age. To get a retirement KITAP, you must be over 55 years old and have had a retirement visa for 4 consecutive years before applying.

KITAP Retirement Requirements

In addition to the requirements you must fulfill earlier, you need several documents to get KITAP quickly. These documents are:

  • Passport (active for at least 18 months).
  • KITAS
  • Sponsor or guarantor letter.
  • Copy of Marriage certificate (if married)
  • A recent photograph
  • Indonesian ID (KTP) of your sponsor or guarantor.
  • Taxpayer Identification Number (NPWP).
  • Declaration letter stating no intention to work in Indonesia (for retirees).
  • Work permit (IMTA) and legal documents of the sponsoring company (for foreign investors).

How to apply for a Retirement KITAP

  • Submit the Retirement KITAP application at the local immigration office
  • Attend Biometric and fingerprint session
  • Process approval from the Immigration Office
  • KITAP completion
