The Bali Provincial Government intends to build light rail transit (LRT) as a type of public transportation. LRT is a light-construction rail mode of transportation. The governor of Bali, Wayan Koster, made the declaration on Thursday, the 11th of May 2023, in the Jayasabha Building in Denpasar during a meeting with Owen Jenkins, the British ambassador to Indonesia and Timor Leste.
According to Koster, the development of the LRT is associated with adopting sustainable energy regulations. “We are indeed heading in that direction,” Koster added.
The LRT will connect the main tourist destinations in Badung Regency to the I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport. Regarding the proposal to construct the LRT in Bali, Koster reaffirmed that he would follow up on the discussion outcomes with Jenkins.
“I reacted to what he (Jenkins) stated previously about continuous collaboration. Along with collaboration in certain areas, which will be monitored by teams from the Bali Provincial Government and the Embassy,” Koster continued.
Jenkins stated he was open to speaking with Governor Koster on a sustainable transportation strategy. Jenkins said the UK was dedicated to expanding its partnership with the Bali Provincial Government, particularly in electric transportation.
“The UK wishes to provide both its most recent energy sources and the knowledge that can be provided in the clean energy industry. We hope that this strategy, which is ideal for the Bali Provincial Government, can be carried out,” added Jenkins.
Koster stated that another option for collaboration between the two parties, in addition to LRT, was the purchase of electric buses. Koster has not yet provided a date or estimated financial requirement for the implementation aim.
Jenkins’ visit to Bali’s governor’s office will be his final official trip to the Island of the Gods because his tenure as the country’s ambassador to Indonesia is ending. He thus said his friends in Bali goodbye and thanked them.
