Throughout 2024, there was considerable news about criminal activities committed by foreigner in Bali. Bali Police Chief Inspector General Daniel Adiyajaya disclosed that at least 226 foreigners were implicated in crimes on the Island of the Gods during 2024. These offences included general, special, and drug-related crimes.
This figure represents an increase compared to the previous year within the Bali Police jurisdiction. In 2023, a total of 194 foreigners were recorded as being involved in criminal activities in Bali.
“In 2024, 226 foreign nationals were arrested for their involvement in general, special, and drug-related crimes,” Daniel stated, as reported by Antara.
Daniel highlighted that the number had risen compared to 2023, during which 194 foreigners were identified as perpetrators of crimes under the Bali Police’s jurisdiction.

Among the hundreds of foreign offenders in Bali, Inspector General Daniel noted that the majority were from the United States, Australia, and Russia. Of the 34 US citizens involved in criminal acts in Bali during 2024, 17 were implicated in general crimes such as theft and assault, while 20 were linked to drug trafficking.
Similarly, of the 32 Australians involved in criminal offences, 15 were implicated in drug-related cases.
This information is somewhat surprising, as social media often portrays Russian nationals as being more frequently involved in criminal activities in Bali.
In reality, 28 Russians were recorded as committing crime in Bali during 2024. Among them, 20 were involved in general crimes, and eight were implicated in drug-related offences.
Many foreigners are also victims of crime in Bali
It is worth noting that foreigners in Bali are not only perpetrators but also victims of crime.
In 2024, the Bali Police recorded 228 foreigners as victims of criminal activities while in Bali. Of these, theft was the most common offence, with 41 victims reported.
Inspector General Daniel emphasised that while foreigners contribute positively to Bali in various ways, their involvement in criminal activities and deviant behaviour has a significant negative impact, warranting heightened attention from the Bali Police.
“The presence of foreigners in Bali continues to pose challenges, particularly the number of those involved in criminal acts and deviant behaviour,” stated Bali Police Chief, Inspector General Daniel Adiyajaya.
