The Governor of Bali, Wayan Koster, directed tourist areas in Bali used as zoning for the application of electric vehicles. “There are many benefits to using electric vehicles, and people need to be encouraged, from zoning, for example, in Nusa Penida, Ubud, Kuta, make zones and make an approach,” he said Denpasar.
After launching the Regional Action Plan for the Acceleration of Battery-Based Electric Motorized Vehicles, he emphasized that zoning must be immediately carried out with the tourist area as the model. Apart from tourist areas, he is targeting Denpasar, Badung, Gianyar, Tabanan, and Karangasem as regencies/cities for tourism.
Implementation of the use of electric vehicles because the area is known to be dense and has the potential to make Bali the fastest in achieving zero emissions. Apart from establishing zoning to support the acceleration of the adoption of electric vehicles in Bali, Koster also suggested establishing cooperation with BPD Bali in terms of providing cheaper and longer installments.
Then also, the taxes are lighter. Parking, if electric vehicles can park freely. So the tangible things are the benefits that will be felt by the community and will encourage people to change,” he said.

The number one person in the Bali Provincial Government even plans to encourage the provision of incentives for business actors in the sector of electric transportation for helping to campaign for the energy transition.
Within the scope of the Bali Provincial Government, Koster plans to use electric vehicles for employees as an effort to invite the community to be involved.
If these efforts are carried out, he said, Bali’s zero emission target in 2045 can be achieved even in 2030. The Head of the Bali Province Transportation Service IGW Samsi Gunarta conveyed that several tourist areas were designed as the electric vehicle implementation zones are the ITDC Nusa Dua, Sanur, and Ubud areas.
“For Nusa Penida, it will start from Nusa Ceningan and Lembongan, already Besakih Temple, which is not a tourist destination but the spiritual concept that will start this year around April, already uses an electric shuttle,” he said.
Jakarta Was the First For Electric Vehicles
PLN Education and Training Center General Manager Rio Adrianto stated that Bali is a development target for the electric vehicle ecosystem after Jakarta to support the program to accelerate the use of new renewable energy.
Especially for Bali itself, said Rio, PLN will intensify the use of electric vehicles considering that Bali is a base tourism in Indonesia which, of course, will add to the attractiveness of tourists to travel to Bali.
“Usage in Indonesia is highest in Jakarta because most charging facilities are in Jakarta. After Jakarta, Bali, which has a decent electric vehicle ecosystem,” said Rio.
PLN has provided 21 Fast Charging Public Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (SPKLU) in 15 regional locations scattered at several points in Bali and 200 home charging units.
Bali Government Officials Are Starting To Use Electric Vehicles
Head of the Bali Provincial Transportation Service IGW Samsi Gunarta said that Governor Wayan Koster had announced the use of electric vehicles for government officials within the Bali Provincial Government starting in 2023.
“Procurement (electric vehicles) is around eight units first. Then we will try this with a rental model. It still needs calculations because of the budget,” he said in Denpasar.
Samsi said that the target for the use of electric vehicles by government officials in 2023 is 30 units. However, the Provincial Government of Bali still has to read the regional financial situation.
Meanwhile, the Governor of Bali, Wayan Koster, was also present at the launch of the Regional Action Plan for Vehicle Acceleration. The Battery-Based Electric Motorbike said the government must set an example for the community.
Koster believes that with one example, using electric vehicles for government officials, the acceleration towards zero emission in Bali by 2024 can be realized.
“This is a concrete first step in implementing a clean energy policy in Bali, especially downstream according to the policy and vision Nangun Sat Kerthi Loka Bali. Whose main goal is to maintain harmony and balance between humans and nature culture,” he said.
