Deputy for Green and Digital Transformation of the Archipelago Capital Authority (OIKN) Mohammed Ali Berawi said flying cars to be tested out in the new capital of Indonesia, Nusantara, in 2024.
OIKN and Hyundai Signed The MoU
According to Ali, OIKN and Hyundai Motor Group have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to work together to build an Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) smart mobility ecosystem in Indonesia.
According to Ali, this collaboration aims to develop flying cars. The flying car concept is still in development around the world, but this development is the first for Indonesia.
“So there are already phases, phases that start with joint study and joint research. This means that we want to be one of the development centers,”said Ali.
The Concept of a Flying Car Will Resemble a Drone
The flying car resembles a drone that can contain passengers and goods. One of its functions is to make it easier to reach hard-to-reach places on roads and hills.
This flying car technology is not yet ready for mass production and requires a lot of development.
He said OIKN is currently developing technologies that could be deployed by 2035, including flying cars. His party wants Indonesia to become a participant in developing flying cars in the future.
“So it’s not 2024 to build this city. I’m building this city for 2045, so the technology is for that. Now if you think about flying cars it’s a bit confusing, 2035 doesn’t need to be confused anymore,” said Ali.
“We are one of the pioneers in technology development. We are doing this and we are taking a technological leap forward with IKN. That is the message we are communicating,” he continued.

Underwater Highways Will Also Be Built in Nusantara
As previously reported, the Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR), Basuki Hadimuljono said that the new capital, Nusantara (IKN), of the Archipelago in East Kalimantan would be equipped with an underwater toll road infrastructure.
According to Basuki, the presence of the undersea toll road will connect the capital city of East Kalimantan, Balikpapan, with Nusantara.
Currently, the toll road project is in the design and feasibility study stage.
“It’s being designed. It’s more feasibility and design,” Basuki told the media, Tuesday (4/10/2022).
Basuki revealed that the form of the sea highway is in the form of a tunnel structure and it is sunk into the sea.
This means that later the government will not dig up the structure for the construction of the tunnel.
“This model is not excavated, but like a container that is placed under the sea, instead of being excavated,” said Basuki.
