Foreign Tourist Has Unexpected Manta Ray Encounter While Filming a Video in Bali

Share:

A viral video shows the experience of a female tourist while snorkeling in Nusa Penida Bali. In this busy holiday season, this beautiful water in Bali has become one of the most popular spots.

Amidst Bali’s warm sunshine and blue waters, the foreign tourist wanted to take a cute video, but a surprising thing happened.

While he was posing in the water, a black shadow appeared. It was a Balinese manta ray, abundant in the waters of Nusa Penida.

“It was all cute & games until…” she wrote in the video.

@travelwithsahan I was not expecting the Manta Ray to be this close to me , I was just trying to take a cute video 😂 #fyp #trending #viral #bali ♬ Oh No – Kreepa

When the manta ray swam close to the tourist and seemed to touch his body, the tourist was immediately surprised and quickly moved away.

A caption shared with the post says, “I was not expecting the manta ray to be this close to me; I was just trying to take a cute video.”

The video, uploaded by @travelwithsahan, went viral on TikTok, and by the time this article was written, it had more than 5 million views.

One netizen commented,”Manta Ray: Girl moved somebody behind me.”

The other commented,”Gentle Giants…they won’t hurt you.”

While some may question the safety of such close encounters, it’s important to note that manta rays are harmless creatures.

Unlike other rays, manta rays do not have spines on their tails. Manta rays also use their large mouths to filter plankton and small fish from the water for food.

Manta Ray appearances are easiest to find June-September in Bali

Nusa Penida’s Manta Point is indeed the best place to see and swim with Manta Rays. The beauty of this place reaches its peak between June and September when sea conditions are ideal for snorkeling.

This is also a good time to visit the manta ray cleaning station, a unique feature where manta rays come to get cleaned by smaller fish located at a relatively shallow depth.

Here, tourists can swim with manta rays, so don’t be surprised if you get “nudged” by these marine animals while you’re swimming or snorkeling.
