Foreign Tourists Continuously Increases in Yogyakarta

26th September 2022 – The number of foreign tourists visiting Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY) continuously increases. With most of them coming from Europe, the DIY Tourism Office (Dispar) has begun to intensify promotions internationally.

Head of Dispar DIY, Singgih Raharjo, said that his team has offered travel agents a few tour packages to Yogyakarta. He said foreign tourists, especially from Europe, preferred nature and cultural tourism. Tourist destinations are based on tangible and intangible cultural heritage, and also tourist villages both culture and nature can be experienced there.

Candi Borobudur, Candi Prambanan, and the Yogyakarta palace are two tourist destination that offers culture and beautiful natural view.

A couple of tourist village has offered tourist packages such as Ngelanggeran, Tinalah, and Kulon Progo.

Raharjo also added that the Yogyakarta Government has offered tourist packages to Germany during the ATF (Asean Tourism Forum) event.

Despite the pandemic happening right now, the number of foreign visitors to Yogyakarta has increased compared to 2021. Most of the foreign tourists are from Germany and France. However, the number of foreign tourists in DIY is less compared to 2019, which is before the Covid-19 pandemic starts.

Raharjo has also received information that a few airplanes plan to open direct flights to Yogyakarta to make it easier for foreign tourists.

Dispar DIY has also prepared tourist visits for the Covid-19 endemic, namely by preparing clean infrastructure facilities in tourist attractions.

Yogyakarta offers different types of tourist destinations, including cultural heritages such as Candi Borobudur, Candi Prambanan, Yogyakarta Palace, and different types of tourism villages. Culinary tourism is also famous in Yogyakarta, specifically on Malioboro road where there are different arrays of Indonesian food to try at affordable prices. Natural tourism such as climbing one of the active volcanoes, Mount Merapi, with a rental jeep for a stunning view of the sun rising.
