Pope’s Mass

Government Suggests Remote Work in Jakarta for 5th of September Because of Pope’s Mass at GBK

The government urges workers who work in the Jakarta area to work from home (WFH) on September 5, 2024. The government said two major activities will take place in the Senayan area of Jakarta.

The agenda in question is the Great Mass, led by the leader of the Catholic Church, Pope Francis, at the GBK Stadium in Jakarta and the Indonesia Sustainability Forum (ISF) at the JCC. Both events were held on September 5, 2024.

“There are two major activities. So we hope that people (and corporate) can make decisions to do work from home independently,” said Jakarta Acting Governor Heru Budi Hartono in a press conference at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta, as reported by Detik.

As everyone knows, Pope Francis, the leader of the World Catholic Church, will attend a grand mass held at Gelora Bung Karno (GBK), Jakarta, on September 5, 2024. The Pope’s visit to Indonesia will take place on September 3-6, 2024.

Through this event, there are about 86.000 Catholics who will attend the Pope’s mass.

Fr. Thomas Ulun Ismoyo, the spokesperson for the Committee for the Visit of Pope Francis to Indonesia, announced that they have scheduled the mass for one and a half hours with 86 thousand people.

Two stadiums, namely the GBK Main Stadium with a capacity of 60 thousand congregations and the Madya Stadium which accommodates 26 thousand congregations, will host the organization of the grand mass.

But considering this event is a very rare event, it is likely that sympathizers and Catholics who cannot enter the GBK stadium will also crowd the area around the mass event. Estimates that come can reach 90 thousand – 100 thousand people.

Moreover, many Catholics from outside Jakarta are predicted to come to Pope’s mass. Polda Metro Jaya also prepared a number of parking pockets to accommodate public vehicles, estimated at 1,800 buses, to attend the grand mass with the Leader of the World Catholic Church, Pope Francis, at Gelora Bung Karno, Jakarta.

Pj. Jakarta Governor Heru Budi Hartono said that tens of thousands of people who will attend the mass will start arriving at around 12.00 WIB with transportation prepared by the Jakarta Provincial Government.

“We also prepare points such as in Cawang, and from the north side, we also prepare. From the side around Cengkareng, from the side around West Jakarta, we have prepared additional TransJakarta transportation and from others,” Heru said.

The Head of the Jakarta Transportation Agency (Kadishub), Syafrin Liputo, urged people to avoid Jalan Sudirman, Jalan Gatot Subroto, Jalan Gerbang Pemuda, and Jalan Asia Afrika on September 5, 2024.

“We hope that people who usually use Jenderal Sudirman, Gatot Subroto, and Youth Gate and Asia Afrika will try to avoid these roads,” he said.

He also said the Jakarta Transportation Agency or TransJakarta had prepared alternatives route to avoid congestion.
