Grand Hyatt Bali Earns Silver EarthCheck Certification, Aligning with Hyatt’s World of Care Philosophy

Nusa Dua, Bali – October, 2024 – Grand Hyatt Bali, located in Nusa Dua, offers an idyllic blend of Balinese charm and modern sophistication, all while prioritizing sustainability, wellness, and cultural immersion.

As part of this commitment, the resort proudly announces its achievement of EarthCheck Certified Silver status, reinforcing its dedication to sustainable hospitality.

This milestone aligns with Hyatt’s World of Care philosophy, which emphasizes creating lasting value for people, communities, and the planet through responsible business practices.

With this certification, Grand Hyatt Bali strengthens its role as a leader in sustainability, embedding environmental stewardship into every aspect of its operations.

Achieving EarthCheck certification was a challenging journey, requiring a meticulous audit of the resort’s practices to meet strict sustainability standards. The process involved reducing energy consumption, managing waste more effectively, and implementing water conservation measures.

The resort overcame these challenges by fostering collaboration among staff, introducing eco-friendly technologies, and embedding sustainability into its daily operations. Regular progress tracking and continuous staff training played a crucial role in staying on course and meeting the rigorous requirements.

Grand Hyatt Bali has made significant improvements under the EarthCheck framework. Energy consumption was reduced by installing energy-efficient lighting and HVAC systems.

Waste management efforts were strengthened through recycling and upcycling programs, along with reducing single-use plastics, which led to a 47.3% decrease in waste sent to landfills. Water-saving fixtures and practices have also been introduced, resulting in a 67.3% reduction in potable water use.

Furthermore, the resort has engaged with the local community through initiatives like the Ekowisata Mangrove Batu Lumbang project, supporting biodiversity and sustainable tourism.

Eco-friendly amenities such as biodegradable cassava straws and large-format soap containers have been introduced in guest rooms.

The resort’s lush gardens, including the “Healing Garden” with edible and flowering plants, are nurtured with organic fertilizers produced on-site.

Improved air quality is another benefit, achieved by reducing the use of chemical pesticides. Guests are invited to participate in sustainability tours to gain deeper insight into the resort’s environmental efforts and learn how they can contribute.

These efforts have already made a measurable impact. The resort has achieved a 3% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions compared to 2022, earning recognition as a regional leader in environmental performance.

Operational efficiency has improved across the board, not only benefiting the environment but also enhancing the overall guest experience.

A Commitment to People, Planet, and Responsible Practices

Aligned with Hyatt’s World of Care, this achievement reflects the resort’s dedication to responsible hospitality. The World of Care initiative focuses on three pillars: caring for people, caring for the planet, and fostering responsible business practices.

Through this philosophy, Hyatt aims to empower employees, promote diversity and inclusion, and drive meaningful community engagement. Grand Hyatt Bali’s commitment to sustainability exemplifies these values, setting an inspiring example for the hospitality industry.
