Singaraja Immigration deported a German tourist with the initials FM for working illegally in Bali. FM was arrested for working as a diving instructor in Karangasem, Bali.

The head of the Singaraja Immigration Office, Hendra Setiawan, said FM was arrested when the surveillance team was conducting routine patrols in Karangasem.

“While conducting surveillance, the team found him driving a pickup truck and several foreign tourists wearing diving equipment. Suspecting this, the team conducted further investigation,” Hendra said, as reported by Detiknews.

Singaraja Immigration Intelligence and Enforcement officers conducted field surveillance and arrested the 59-year-old man in the marine tourism area on Friday, September 20, 2024.

At that time, FM was caught driving several foreign tourists to one of the dive sites in a pickup truck and already wearing wetsuits.

The team found evidence that FM was a diving instructor at a diving equipment rental place.

At the Singaraja Immigration Office, they examined FM. The examination revealed that FM entered Indonesia using a visit visa, namely a Visa on Arrival (VoA), which is valid until September 23, 2024. However, VoA cannot be used to do work in Bali; therefore, foreigners in Bali need a work visa.

The authorities conducted the deportation through I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport on Thai Airways flight number TG432 (Denpasar – Bangkok) with the final destination of Frankfurt, Germany, on Sunday, October 6, 2024.
