July 30, 2022 – Expatriates primarily value their money and how easy it is to settle in the top destinations for 2022. The top three places to live and work are Mexico, Indonesia, and Taiwan from 12,000 expats in 52 regions. Veteran expats highly praise these places for things like their quality of life and simplicity of moving in.
Indonesia ranks second overall and scores best in the Ease of Settling In Index as a top country for expatriates: In comparison to other countries, 90 percent of expats believe Indonesians are generally courteous and nice to foreign people (vs. 65 percent globally). Nearly half (46 percent) even think they could not be any kinder to foreigners, compared to 27 percent overall.
80 percent of expats feel at home in Indonesia because of a great social life. Over two-thirds (64 percent) of expatriates believe that their discretionary household income is more than adequate to live comfortably, according to the Ease of Settling In (1st) and Personal Finance (3rd) Indices, which reveal that Indonesia ranks best in those categories (vs. 45 percent globally).
The Expat Essentials Index places the country sixth among the best in the world, with housing coming in second and language in sixth. Housing is easily accessible (84 percent vs. 54 percent globally) and reasonably priced in Indonesia (74 percent vs. 39 percent globally).
Although it scores only a little bit better than average in the Working Abroad Index (28th), the Quality of Life Index gives it its lowest rankings (41st). Expats are unsatisfied with the availability of green goods and services (35 percent vs. 17 percent globally), the quality of medical care (28 percent vs. 14 percent globally), and the infrastructure for autos (40 percent vs. 13 percent globally). In general, 91 percent of foreigners who reside in Indonesia are happy with their lives.
From this data, Indonesia has arguably surpassed Singapore as one of the top country for expatriates to work and live in 2022.
