Seoul Trade Attaché Eko Prilianto Sudrajat also expressed his support for Toko Kopi Tuku’s efforts. He said that the opening of pop-up coffee shops is in line with the Ministry of Trade’s program to increase the exports of Indonesian products to South Korea.
“The Ministry of Trade continues to support efforts made by business actors by opening pop-up shops like this and in other forms to export Indonesian products in South Korea,” said Eko.
Toko Kopi Tuku opened this pop-up coffee shop to explore business expansion opportunities. By opening the pop-up coffee shop, Toko Kopi Tuku can see consumers’ enthusiasm and learn about consumer behavior.
South Korea was chosen as an expansion destination due to the South Korean people’s love for coffee culture.
In addition, Toko Kopi Tuku can obtain market information in South Korea and build local community networks to introduce and promote Indonesia’s rich coffee culture in South Korea.
Based on data from the Korea International Trade Association (KITA), in 2023, South Korea imported USD 11.2 million worth of coffee from Indonesia. From 2019 to 2023, coffee imports experienced an average trend increase of 3.85 percent. This proves that the South Korean public is fond of Indonesian coffee products.
Kopi Tuku and the popularity of palm sugar coffee
Kopi Tuku is a brand that popularized palm sugar coffee in Indonesia. Until now, many other coffee shops have sold the same menu, but the deliciousness of Tuku coffee remains a favorite of many Indonesian coffee lovers.
For the pop-up shop in Seoul, Andanu Prasetyo, CEO and founder of Toko Kopi Tuku, explained that they will not only present the iced menu of Kopi Susu Tetangga and Tetangga Blend, which are their popular products.
Tuku also sells coffee beans from several regions in Indonesia in collaboration with several local coffee producers, one of which is Adena Coffee.
The pop-up shop’s presence in Seoul is making quite a spectacle. One of the K-pop girl group Secret Number members, Dita Karang, was seen attending the pop-up shop. Dita, who is of Indonesian descent, admitted that she enjoyed the taste of the Indonesian specialty coffee.
