Indonesia has a talented and unique metal band called Voice of Baceprot (VoB). This band consists of three hijab girls from Garut, Indonesia. This year marks another milestone for them because they will be performing on the stage of the infamous music festival in the world, Glastonbury.

Voice of Baceprot will be the first Indonesian artist to perform at the Glastonbury Festival, marking another milestone in the hijab-wearing trio’s career.

“We are bringing Voice of Baceprot and our country,” VoB bassist Widi Rahmawati told Reuters when asked about the Glastonbury gig.

Thanks to their ability to strum guitars and intricate drumming, VoB was once the cover model for Britain’s New Musical Express magazine and received praise from former Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello.

The group is highly praised not only for its talent but also for its lyrics. With lyrics that address issues ranging from gender inequality to climate change, the group said that they hope to help improve the world for future generations through their music.

“We care about what happens around us; that’s why we make a lot of songs about what we experience, see, and hear. We just want our world to be a better place for the generations after us,” says Firda “Marsya” Kurnia, vocalist and guitarist.

Voice of Baceprot sings in a mix of English, Indonesian and Sundanese – their mother tongue. The word “baceprot” itself means “very noisy” in Sundanese.

Voice of Baceprot will perform on the Woodsies stage at Glastonbury on June 28, sharing the glory of performing at the legendary music festival with artists such as Coldplay, Dua Lipa, Shania Twain, and Cyndi Lauper.
