Indonesia’s Presidential Inauguration: No Car Free Day and Additional Schedule for the Commuter Line

The president and vice president-elect, Prabowo-Gibran, will be officially inaugurated on October 20. The inauguration will be held at the Nusantara Building, Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, on Sunday, October 20, 2024, at 10:00 a.m.

The 2024 presidential election contestants Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar and Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD were also invited to attend the event.

Not only that, the Prabowo-Gibran inauguration ceremony will also be attended by representatives from friendly countries.

On that day, various changes occurred, ranging from traffic engineering, additional commuter line schedules, and the elimination of car-free days to entertainment stages.

KAI Commuter added Commuter Line trips as an effort to anticipate the surge of passengers who want to witness the inauguration of President-Elect Prabowo Subianto and Vice President-Elect Gibran Rakabuming Raka on October 20, 2024.

“On Saturday-Sunday, October 19-20, KAI Commuter operates the Jabodetabek Commuter Line travel operation pattern service referring to the weekday operation pattern, operating 1,048 trips from only 962 trips,” said KAI Commuter VP Corporate Secretary Joni Martinus, as reported by Antara.

He said that it is estimated that Commuter Line Jabodetabek users will increase by 45 per cent on Sundays compared to the average user.

Previously, on October 5, 2024, which coincided with the celebration of the TNI Anniversary, there was a surge in users on weekends of around 45-50 per cent.

Therefore, it is predicted that the total number of Jabodetabek Commuter Line users will exceed 1 million during the Prabowo-Gibran inauguration.

In addition, the Central Jakarta City government is enlivening the inauguration of the president and vice president with a flag parade and entertainment stage for the community.

It is also expected that many people who live in the surrounding areas of Jakarta, such as Bogor, Depok, Bekasi, and Tangerang, will use public transportation, such as the commuter line.

No Car Free Day on Sunday

The Car Free Day event, which is routinely held in Jakarta on Sundays, has been cancelled this week. Although the CFD is cancelled, traffic arrangements will be made in Sudirman-Thamrin. This is because Sudirman-Thamrin will be used as a route for state guests and VVIPs who will attend the inauguration of the president and vice president.

The DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency (Dishub) also announced the elimination of CFD on October 20 through its Instagram account.

“#FriendsDishub, in the context of organizing national activities, the Motor Vehicle Free Day (HBKB) on Sunday, October 20, 2024, is CLOSED,” wrote the DKI Jakarta Dishub Instagram account.

Security of 100 thousand soldiers

A total of 100,000 TNI soldiers from three dimensions were deployed to secure the presidential and vice presidential inauguration events on October 20, 2024.

TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto said that in this inauguration security activity, his party also deployed sniper troops to anti-drone weapons.

“All of us are mobilized for security, especially VVIP for ring 1 of the Paspampres complete with snipers and anti-drones and ring 2, 3 TNI and police forces,” he said.
