Jakarta Flooding Update: 38 Streets Underwater, Water Levels Hit 65 cm

On Thursday, 29th February 2024, Jakarta experienced flooding, impacting a total of 38 street sections. The DKI Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency reported flooding in numerous neighbourhoods, with water levels ranging from 30-45 cm to 65-120 cm.

The Chief Executive of the Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency stated that their team has deployed personnel to monitor flooding conditions in various areas. Additionally, they have coordinated with the SDA Service, Bina Marga Service, and Gulkarmat Service to pump out water and ensure the proper functioning of drainage systems.

In Rawa Terate, Cakung, East Jakarta, two neighbourhoods saw flooding with water levels reaching 65-120 cm. Additionally, seven neighbourhoods in Tegal Alur, West Jakarta, experienced flooding with heights of 30-45 cm. The extensive flooding across Jakarta was primarily attributed to heavy rainfall throughout the latter part of February 2024. Below is a list of the streets affected by the Jakarta floods:

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has warned that all provinces in Indonesia may experience rainfall throughout March 2024. Several provinces, including Jakarta, Yogyakarta, West Java, Sumatra West, South Sumatra, Bengkulu, and East Java, are on flood alert for the entire month.

 


BMKG also cautioned that Jakarta could face extreme rainfall from March 1 to March 8, 2024. Residents are advised to prepare by carrying umbrellas when going out, staying updated on flood-prone areas, and securing belongings in case their homes are affected by flooding.
