The award included both tourist villages as part of the 55 Best Tourism Villages by UN Tourism 2024.

“I am very proud and optimistic that this award can be an inspiration for other tourist villages in Indonesia to continue to optimize the potential of natural wealth, cultural heritage, and empowerment of the village community towards more inclusive and sustainable tourism,” said Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana through a press statement to national media in Indonesia.

The award was announced at an event in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia, on Thursday, November 14, 2024. This year, 55 villages were selected from more than 260 applications from more than 60 member countries.

“The Best Tourism Village initiative not only recognizes the outstanding achievements of these villages but also highlights the transformative power of tourism,” reads the UN Tourism website.

Jatiluwih and Wukirsari succeeded in following in the footsteps of Nglanggeran Tourism Village, which won the same title in 2021, and Penglipuran Tourism Village in 2023. “Of course, we cannot be complacent about this achievement. We at the Ministry of Tourism will continue to strive to strengthen the ecosystem of tourist villages in the country through a collective commitment to the advancement of Indonesian tourism,” said Widi.
