Could you share with us a bit about your experience and expertise?
I graduated the University of Portsmouth in the South Coast of the UK with an upper-class BSc (Hons) Degree in Property Marketing, Design & Development and have since worked in the Real Estate industry both in the UK and internationally for over 20 years.
I first started out in the industry as an Agent then soon progressed to Management and eventually was promoted to Director of the Property Division for one of the largest PLC financial companies in the UK. I have subsequently worked across a wide range of sectors within the industry including Residential & Commercial Agency, Property Asset Management, Marketing & PR, Operations & Logistics, Legal & Compliance, Land & Commercial Acquisitions and Planning & Development.
My various roles have allowed me to work in locations across the UK and internationally, including Bournemouth, Southampton, Reading, Mayfair (London), Monaco, Greece, Spain and Dubai. I have now relocated to Jakarta and I am really enjoying working with our LMG Indonesia teams to support and grow the LMG brand.
What made you interested in working in the Real Estate industry and working at the Lets Move Group?
I find the Real Estate industry a hugely exciting sector to work in; from the range of stunning properties and exotic locations around the world, to the range of people and personalities that I have had the pleasure of doing business with over the years.
Real Estate is an interesting and diverse sector where two days are never the same and I am incredibly grateful to have developed a long-lasting career within the industry.
I chose to work at the Lets Move Group for a variety of reasons…
Firstly, the Lets Move Group is one of the most awarded property agencies in Indonesia offering a wide range of services in Real Estate, Legal & Tax and also launched the first national Mortgage consultancy in Indonesia.
I also know the CEO Gary Joy for over 20 years from back in the UK and we have been close friends for many years. I am now excited to have the opportunity to work alongside Gary in a professional capacity to grow the Lets Move Group in Indonesia.
As a British expat myself, I am also particularly interested in helping other expatriates from around the world. We have recently launched a dedicated Expat Property division incuding a free property finding service to help expats find a home in any one of the stunning locations that we cover in Jakarta and Bali. You can follow the recently launched Expat Property page on Instagram: @letsmovegroup.expats where we will be posting property tips for Expats looking to rent or buy property in Jakarta or Bali.
What is the biggest challenge in making Lets Move Group thrive in Indonesia’s real estate industry?
The Lets Move Group’s goal has always been to improve the industry and raise service levels, whilst providing honest and ethical advice. The biggest challenge is communicating these core professional values to potential clients in an industry where there is a large amount of unprofessional / fake listings created by a number of unlicensed / rogue operators which tarnish the reputation of the Real Estate industry.
The Lets Move Group is certified by AREBI (the Association of Real Estate Brokers in Indonesia) so we follow the highest possible standards in the industry. My goal at LMG is to work with the real estate teams across our offices to ensure that we are effectively communicating the benefits of using the LMG’s services to the wider marketplace.
The Lets Move Group provides a one-stop solution for every property / real estate requirement you may have when moving to rent or buy in Bali or Jakarta. The challenge remains to ensure that our position as being Indonesia’s most trusted award-winning Real Estate agency is heard by prospective customers and remains visible within the ever-evolving digital landscape that the Real Estate sector operates within.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?
I have an strong appetite for both business and travel and my current position at the Lets Move Group has allowed me to combine the two. I currently fly to Bali at least once a month to visit our fantastic real estate teams across our 3 x Bali offices to provide them the support and guidance that they need in order to continue growing effectively.
As soon as the LMG Indonesia operations are working to maximum capacity, the next step will be working alongside the CEO Gary Joy to implement an international expansion plan for LMG and associated brands across South-East Asia.
In 5 x years time, I would like to have overseen growth of LMG at an international level and then be spending my weekends with a future family of my own, relaxing in a hammock, drinking a coconut in a tropical destination somewhere over the horizon!
Do you have any personal mantras / business that you live by?
I have a few personal mantras:
1) Everything happens for a reason; if you live your life using principles of good faith and morality, essentially good will always come to you and you will be guided to reach your destiny, whatever that may be
2) You can only connect the dots looking backwards; a famous quote by Steve Jobs quote demonstrating the importance of moving forwards when faced with the struggles / difficulties that life may throw at you
3) Aim for the moon, if you miss at least you’ll be amongst the stars; the only thing that is actually holding you back from achievement is yourself – always aim high, believe in yourself and great things will happen
Regarding business advice; always try to work in good faith and for the good of the business, avoid short-sighted temptations and always keep the bigger picture in mind. I have seen so many people over the years throw away good opportunities and / or lifetime careers simply by trying to be clever and try and earn a quick buck. Keep your focus on your long-term strategy and goals, be efficient, take pride in your work and yourself, set a good example for your peers, always work for the good of the company and you will eventually be rewarded with the life and happiness that you deserve.
