Motorcycles

You’ll probably have seen how many motorcycles are there in the streets of Jakarta. If you are looking to save money but hate waiting for trains or buses, motorcycles are for you. Besides, motorcycles are small enough to fit on the narrowest roads to escape from traffic during rush hours. Ojeks are always available to pick you up, or you can order one through Grab or GoJek for a cheaper fare.

Buses

TransJakarta is the city’s public bus that runs through 13 corridors every day. An exclusive road for these buses is provided so that you’ll arrive at each bus stop faster than other vehicles during rush hours. Only bank-issued prepaid cards, e-money, or e-Toll Card are accepted, so be sure to have your cards ready with some cash before boarding in.

Trains

If you want to completely skip traffic congestion or travel between towns, then the trains are the best option for you. You can choose KRL if you’re going to travel between cities in the Greater Jakarta area such as Bekasi, Bogor, Cikarang, etc. MRT is also available for you who want to go through around Central, North, and South Jakarta. Just like any other public transportation, trains might be extra packed with people and arrives late during rush hours.

Overall, those are the most recommended method of transportation in Jakarta. Unless it’s in your neighborhoods or short distances, walking or taking a bicycle is not recommended as there are no sideways specially made for pedestrians outside Kemang, Menteng, SCBD, and the Senopati area.
