Ministry to Use Waterfront Labuan Bajo as a Cultural Space

July 25, 2022 – The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf) urges the use of Waterfront City Labuan Bajo as a cultural space for the public to use for arts, culture, and creative economy activities.

The National Tourism Strategic Area (KSPN) of Marina Labuan Bajo, which is named Waterfront City Labuan Bajo, has just been inaugurated by President Joko Widodo.

“As stated by the President that Waterfront Labuan Bajo can be used for cultural space. Therefore, we are going to hold a lot of cultural activities, festivals, tourism, and other events in the future to celebrate how Labuan Bajo becomes a destination that offers different variety of activities,” said the President Director of the Executive Agency for the Labuan Bajo Flores Authority (BPOLBF) Shana Fatina on Sunday (24/5).

Through BPOLBF, Kemenparekraf will be collaborating with the Ministry of Transportation for the use of the Waterfront which is divided into five zones.

Besides being a cultural space, Waterfront Labuan Bajo also acts as a command center and information spot for tourists before they are connected to other tourist destinations such as Flores, Lembata, Alor, and other NTT destinations.

This effort is done as a part of making Labuan Bajo a tourism spot with quality. Waterfront City has become a new tourist magnet to revive the public space of the local creative community and MSMEs.

The Five Zones of Waterfront Labuan Bajo

Waterfront City has five integrated zones with a length of 4,5km that could be used for different types of public activities.

The first zone is for the pedestrian or promenade at Bukit Pramuka. The second zone is for the construction of a promenade in Kampung Air. The third zone is for the construction of a plaza, observation tower, public spaces, and passenger terminals. The fourth zone is for the construction of the promenade which is part of the BUMN hotel plaza. And lastly, is for the construction of a culinary area promenade with a cantilever structure.
